In true Adepticon fashion, Games Workshop unleashed earth shacking information for the Warhammer 40K franchise. 10th Edition is confirmed to release in the summer of 2023. Let’s be honest for a sec, 9th edition was kind of a mess. Between release delays due to Papa Nurgle’s “blessing”, rules creep, and just the rapid changes being made to the rules, players didn’t know what way was up.
GW gave us just a little taste as what would be coming. Updated unit stats, new turn order, they will be ditching the way we built armies in 9th edition, a simplified list of stratagems, and over all a simplified game experience that continuing players can adapt to or new players can pick up and play quicker. I for one am happy to hear this, my biggest gripe with 9th edition was how complicated it felt to play and if you took an extended break form the game you had to play a lot of catch up. Some other good news, the indexes will be free for download at the launch of the edition, so no one has to scourer the earth to find a copy to start playing. Now for some bad news and don’t shoot the messenger. Do you remember all those codex’s that we all bought throughout the life cycle of 9th? Sorry to say that they will be nil and void once 10th launches.
Also, what comes with a new edition? NEW MODELS!!!!! That is right my hobby friends we are going to be getting some long overdue model updates and brand spanking new ones as well, Looking at you Johnson El Lion, which in my opinion looks pretty awesome. Space Marine terminators are getting an upgrade as well. They basically look the same as the classic first-born ones but sized up for Primaris use.
Another hint was that you can play them as Primaris Terminators, can someone say Deathwing? They also showed off some updated Termagants for the Tyranids, which in my opinion look loads better then the old ones that hasn’t been updated in ages. I would expect to see other kit updates as well.
Overall, I’m excited to see what 10th edition has in store for us. The game and community have come a long way over the years and it has been a roller-coaster ride to say the least. We will be keeping a close watch for more sneak peaks of the new rules so we can get our armies ready and prepare for battle. After all in the grim dark future there is only war!
